MJ Loyet is a scenic designer and production designer, as well as a painter and fine artist, currently based in the Washington DC metro area. They were born and raised in Southern Illinois, near St. Louis.
They received a BFA in Production Design, with a concentration in set design, from Savannah College of Art and Design. They are currently a Scenic Design MFA candidate and Graduate Assistant at the University of Maryland's School of Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies, working under designer Misha Kachman. They are expected to graduate in June 2028.
While studying at Savannah College of Art and Design, they lead multiple production design departments for various student films, as well as participated in other teams under various direction of fellow students. They also worked as a member of the scenic design team for three SCAD stage productions, under advisement of Jake Ewonus.
